Are there any 1-1 sessions this year?

This year’s conference is one full day long, packed with opportunities to hone your skills as writers and illustrators, so we are unable to offer 1-1 reviews which will take you away from the conference programme.

We are, however, having an Industry Networking Party on Saturday night where there will be a host of agents, publishers and industry insiders joining us. You will be able to meet and mingle in a more relaxed and social way, so do bring your little black book to write notes of names and conversations. Our guests will not be checking through your manuscripts, but they will be happy to talk about business in general.

What are the breakout sessions?

Breakouts are when the audience splits up to attend professional events that happen concurrently. You can choose your preferred sessions on this website by registering for free. These choices will be saved in your SCBWI Member Home. Sessions will be for Writers, Illustrators, Newbies and PULSE. Yeah, we know it’s really hard to choose. Please note the Conference is NOT free. You MUST purchase a ticket.

When do I need to book my Conference ticket by?

Bookings for conference tickets remains open till 2330 GMT on 30th October 2024.

Are there any other costs I should budget for?

You must organise your own accommodation and transportation. Lunch and coffee breaks are part of the conference fee as well as a drink and nibbles at the party on Saturday night. The booking form will ask you what session you would prefer. The Saturday Night party and Mass Book Launch is included in your conference ticket.

I have booked a place but can no longer attend - can I get a refund?

We are very sorry you can no longer attend. Unfortunately, as we’re sure you understand, SCBWI is a non-profit charity and the Conference is carefully budgeted and planned ahead of time - so we are unable to offer refunds Please contact conference@britishscbwi.org if you have any queries.

Where can I stay for the Conference?

There are plenty of places to stay in London, depending on your budget. Public transport is decent and there are Underground stations within a 10 minute walk..

We have compiled a list of hotels close to our Conference venue, 20 Bedford Way, so you can choose a hotel which suits you best.

Do SCBWI Volunteers get paid?

No! The SCBWI volunteers who deliver conferences and other events do not get paid. There are perks; the hard working conference team for example attend the conference for free. Network heads and various volunteers get discounts. But mainly we volunteer because we like what we do and we like being around people who love children’s books, as we do. Oh, and we do get to interact with the attending editors and agents at each conference.
