A Master Class in drawing animals from life with illustrator Alexander Vidal
Join illustrator Alexander Vidal and SCBWI peers for a fantastic, in-person illustration event at the Los Angeles Zoo. Bring your sketchbooks, drawing materials, and some comfy walking shoes. As we trek the zoo, stopping to sketch, we'll get tips from Alexander on capturing animals in your personal style and how habitat affects the illustration.
When: Saturday, March 29th, 2025. 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. The event is 2 hours long, with the option to stay at the zoo for the rest of the day and spend additional time with illustrator friends and peers.
Where: LA Zoo - 5333 Zoo Dr., Los Angeles, CA 90027 - Meet us near the left side of the zoo entrance by the Membership ticketing booth.
Price: $55 for premium members, $80 for preview members. Includes admission to the zoo.

Springtime at the LA Zoo is a great opportunity to see baby animals. While this is a sketch event, writers are welcome to share the fun for story inspiration!

Originally from New Mexico, Alexander Vidal studied cultural anthropology, and spent time living in Africa and Asia before starting his career in illustration. A love for animals and a dedication to conservation are the driving themes in his work. He is visually inspired by folk art, Midcentury design and California Modernism. A graduate of ArtCenter College of Design, his clients have included the California Academy of Sciences, Monterey Bay Aquarium, The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles, Chronicle Books, the Nature Conservancy, and the Audubon Society.
