Webinar Description: Join literary agent and former editor Elise Howard as she discusses the process of working with your agent on readying your work for submission. Topics to be covered will include: · What’s an editorial agent? · Submitting to an editorial agent · Finding the right editorial agent for you · Revising for submission · Ready for submission? · What exactly is “room for the editor”? · The agent’s role after the book is sold. After laying the groundwork for the subject, we will make the session as interactive as possible, in order to answer participants’ most pressing questions about the agent/author relationship and to help make your search for an agent, editorial or otherwise, as productive as possible.

About Elise

Elise Howard is an agent at DeFiore & Company, representing works across a variety of categories, with a specialty in books and illustration for young readers. Prior to joining DeFiore, Elise Howard was the founding publisher of Algonquin Young Readers, which she led from 2011 to 2022. Elise was previously SVP and associate publisher at HarperCollins Children's Books, where she oversaw the publication of many award-winning and bestselling books. She began her career as a book packager, conceiving, selling to publishers, and developing juvenile and adult fiction and non-fiction. Some of the authors whose work she has edited include Avi, Elizabeth C. Bunce, Tracey Baptiste, Kelly Barnhill, Sara Farizan, Neil Gaiman, Kelly Jensen, James Klise, and Nova Ren Suma. Books she has edited have won the Newbery Medal twice, the the Edgar Allen Poe Award for best juvenile novel twice, the Lambda Literary Award, and many other awards and honors.
