Calling all novel writers! Want to write a novel for kids but not sure where to start? Have lots of ideas but not sure which ones will work best? Have a work-in-progess and need some accountability and guidance? In this virtual workshop, you will dive deep into writing a children's novel. Writing From the Inside Out: Novel Workshop is offered by the Nebraska region starting September 2024 with George Jreije. Classes will be 11am - 12:30pm CST.
This Collaborative Novel Workshop series consists of an eight-month virtual workshop that meets twice a month from September 2024 to April 2025 (once a month in December and April).
Using Zoom, author George Jreije will guide collaborative groups through the process of planning, researching, and writing novels for kids and teens. George is a published author who will help you understand how to approach writing novel manuscripts from the writer's perspective.
George Jreije ("jer-age") is the Arab American author of the Shad Hadid children’s fantasy series, the upcoming Bashir Boutros fantasy series, as well as the upcoming graphic novels, Tarik's Bazaar Adventure and Lilo and the League of Librarians, all with HarperCollins. He has also written short stories in collaboration with UNICEF.
Currently, George is a Creative Writing teacher with Gotham Writers Workshop and a freelance book editor. He was recently the author-in-residence for the Concord Library and is a recurring speaker for SCBWI, the Highlights Foundation, and more. For more information about George, check out his website.
This workshop is intended to give writers the structure and guidance for telling their stories in novel format. With our collaborative model, you'll have opportunities to get feedback on your work from other participants and deepen your own craft knowledge while helping other members of the group through the drafting process.
These 90-minute workshop meetings will take place via Zoom on the second and fourth Saturdays from September 2024 to April 2025 at 11:00 am – 12:30 pm Central time. You can see a more detailed schedule below.
This is an interactive workshop. All participants are expected to attend meetings live—active participation is key to getting the most out of this experience. That said, we realize life happens and can provide a recording when extenuating circumstances prevent in-person participation.
At the conclusion of the workshop, a submission opportunity will be available to participants. More information to come.
