It may be the final few weeks of 2024 but we haven’t slowed down yet.
Since our last update we have another winner in our midst! Our illustrator member, Elsabé Ebersöhn accepted the runner’s up award in the children’s book category at the 2024 SALA Awards for Saartjie, die Spinnekop met sewe bene on behalf of the author, Riana Scheepers. We are sure Elsabé’s illustrations were a contributing factor to this award being won, so congratulations from us Elsabé!
We are very fortunate to have a wonderful bunch of members and although we meet regularly in a virtual capacity, it’s always a treat when we get to see each other in the flesh. Since one of our members was participating in a book launch in Mouille Point, Cape Town we decided it would be an excellent excuse for a get together. That way we could see each other, catch up and support Elsabé (yes she’s been busy hasn’t she!?) who had illustrated the book and flown down from Pretoria for the occasion.
Congratulations to Elaine on becoming an RAE, an honour accorded to Region Advisors for exceptional service. This is very much deserved and means she has life membership of SCBWI.
Fiorella’s Oopsie Daisy Day
Written by Cindy Bell, illustrated by SCBWI member Emily House
When Fiorella decides to leave the garden alone, against her guardian's instructions, her day of misadventures ends with her being lost and afraid. She quickly realizes that ignoring the boundaries set for her has unhappy results. Will Fiorella find her way back to the safety of her loving home, and will Abraham and Mama Rose ever forgive her?
Fiorella continues to wag her way into the hearts of children through her second story, showing that forgiveness often comes when we need it most.
