Scholarship Opportunities for Illustrators' Day 2025

SCBWI Mid-Atlantic region encompasses a wide range of creators. Our priority is to reflect this representation and serve all members of our local community. In addition, we aim to help the children’s book industry and our local chapter build a bigger bookshelf by creating a welcoming environment for creators while striking down barriers to access. In an effort to broaden access to resources and events offered by the Mid Atlantic region of SCBWI, TWO (2) awards will be granted for creators in our region for whom attending the conference is a financial hardship OR who self-identify as members of communities which have been underrepresented in children’s and young adult literature. We welcome all definitions of underrepresentation.

The awards will cover the tuition of the Illustrators’ Day workshop and one written critique (transportation is not included).

Eligibility:

  • All applicants must live in Virginia or the District of Columbia.
  • Applicants do not have to be members of SCBWI to apply.
  • Application is limited to creators who are not represented by an agent and are pre-published.
  • Applicants should note how they qualify and would benefit from attending the Illustrators’ Day event.
  • There is no fee to apply, and both awards are open to creators of all skill levels.

The deadline to submit is Friday, January 31, 2025 at midnight Eastern time. Winners will be announced by Monday, Feb. 8, 2025. Any winners who are already registered will receive a full refund.
