Our educational programming push in 2025 will be a series of 12 webinars on topics of craft and career from experienced creators in our region and around the country. Are you struggling to find dedicated time to write? Looking for like-minded folks and accountability? Our monthly writing group meets the last Wednesday of the month from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Mountain Time at the North Domingo Baca Multigenerational Center in Albuquerque and spends two hours writing. No prompts, required sharing, or critiquing– just writing.

Jennifer Bohnhoff's latest Middle Grade historical novel is out now!

October 15 was publication day for The Famished Country, book 3 in Jennifer Bohnhoff's middle grade historical fiction series, Rebels Along the Rio Grande. Published by Kinkajou Press, a division of Artemesia Publishing, the series is set in New Mexico during the Civil War.

Caroline Starr Rose announces her latest MG novel-in-verse

Stacey Barney at Nancy Paulsen Books has bought Song of the Raven by Caroline Starr Rose, a middle grade coming of age novel-in-verse about a raven named Tumble who is finding her place in the beautiful, brutal raven world with her siblings Muddle and Bone. Publication is slated for Spring 2027. Tracey Adams at Adams Literary negotiated the deal for world rights.

Congratulations, New Mexico/Arizona Book Award Winners Jennifer Bohnhoff and Vaunda Micheaux Nelson!

SCBWI-NM had two winners among the New Mexico Arizona Book Awards. Congratulations goes out to Vaunda Micheaux Nelson, whose Small Shoes, Great Strides won in in the Young Readers category, and to Jennifer Bohnhoff, whose The Worst Enemy won in in the Juvenile category.

Khadijah VanBrakle announces her latest YA novel

Khadijah VanBrakle is pleased to announce that her second YA novel, My Perfect Family, will be released in July 2025.

Susan Wider announces a narrative nonfiction book deal

Lisa Sandell at Scholastic Focus has bought world rights to Sylvie and Monsieur Marcel, a narrative nonfiction middle grade by National Jewish Book Award-winning author Susan Wider, about a French Jewish doctor and a Syrian Jewish actor and philosopher who created a clandestine network in the South of France to save hundreds of Jewish children during the Holocaust. Publication is set for 2026. Rosemary Stimola at Stimola Literary Studio brokered the deal.

Indigenous Reads Rising is an online resource for teachers, librarians, writers, and readers. It provides book lists of titles by Indigenous creators, articles and guides to help non-Indigenous readers and book professionals understand and respect Native stories, and a robust list of resources to help Native authors hone their craft and pursue publication.
