Author/Illustrator Kara Mitchell's topic is Ideation, which is, "the creative process of generating, developing, and communicating new ideas" - a great topic for illustrators and writers. Illustrators often ask me questions about how to submit to agents & editors - this is a great night to get answers from someone who knows. (karammitchell.com)
Ever wonder how you can make money with your illustrations while still pursuing traditional publishing? Alex Brodt will talk about diversifying revenue streams, from what she's selling to how she's producing it, and everything in between! There will be a pre-meeting dinner at Belle Isle Brewery, which is also at 1900 NW Expressway, at 5:30. Come meet other writers and get to know more about the industry as we enjoy casual conversation. PLEASE RSVP to oklahoma-ra@scbwi.org (Gaye Sanders) if you are coming to the dinner. Reservations are made the evening prior so she needs to know by late afternoon the day before the meeting if you are coming to the dinner.
The OK/AR SCBWI Fall Retreat will feature Deborah Halverson and Scott Magoon. This will be a deep dive into revision for your work, whether you write illustrate, or both. Optional opportunities include: face to face consultations from Deborah and Scott; pre-retreat manuscript exchanges with critiques in groups during the retreat; and time to spend on your writing or illustrating, free from the obligations of home and family.
During our in-person revision retreat with Deborah Halverson, we are making the presentations by Deborah Halverson available to those who are not able to make it to our in-person event through live streaming of her presentations and recordings available for 30 days following the event.

Come hear about her journey and get tips for how to persevere in the publishing industry.
