I have been a member of SCBWI since 2016. Although I carry my pencils and sketchbooks everywhere, the majority of my books are created with Procreate on iPad Pro. My process starts with stories and dreams. Doodles on napkins and late night sketches. It’s a lot of fun and excitement followed by a cycle of ugly art and self doubts. Illustrating picture books is a beautiful 6 -12 months marathon. I’m looking forward to sharing more about my process in the upcoming SCBWI SoCal meeting as a speaker.

When I became a new mom in 2015, I started an Instagram account @momisdrawing to share my motherhood journey through illustration. From this passion project, I was reached out by my literary agent.

I didn’t study illustration, but I have a BFA in studio art and digital media at New World School of the Art in Miami. My dedicated art space is a small corner in my shared bedroom/ husband’s office/ art studio/ (used to be a baby nursery).

My dream book to illustrate would be to create a funny and heartfelt book that kids want to read over and over. A fun project I am working on now is my 8th book that I can’t wait to announce. Although I don’t write my own books now, I’d love to author/illustrate my own books in the near future.

My tip for illustrators starting out is to trust the process, and have fun!

Some interesting facts about me are that I can replay any melody I hear on a piano. I fold laundry to relax. When I was reached out by my literary agent for the first time, because I have never met anyone from the publishing world, I thought it was an online scam.

I am represented by Molly O’Neill from Root Literary. My agent reached out to me through a social media DM. Books I have illustrated are:

Every Little Letter (Dial/Penguin)2020, Sometimes Love (Dial/Penguin)2022, My Moms Love Me (Scholastic)2022, I Love You More Than You’ll Ever know (MacMillan)2023, Hey Little Night Owl (Little Simon) 2023, A Treasure of Measures (Chronicle) 2024, TBA (Viking/Penguin)2025, TBA (Abrams) 2026
