Year End Virtual Coffee House

A FREE online event for SCBWI Premium Members, hosted by MD/DE/WV Critique Group Coordinator Sam Cameron. Take time during this busy season to nurture your creativity! Hop on zoom to meet fellow kidlit creators and get a little accountability and cheerleading for your butt-in-chair time.

Dates and Times

The virtual coffee house will be open on zoom Saturday mornings December 14 and 21, 2024 from 10am-11am Eastern time. 

Each session of this online event is 60 minutes long.

Registration will remain open through Saturday, December 21, 2024

Registration Details

This event is FREE to SCBWI Premium Members, but you must register to receive the zoom link.

Note: if you have a current paid SCBWI membership, you are now a Premium Member.

You must be logged in to your SCBWI member account in order to register.

Registering in advance is highly recommended. We cannot guarantee that people who register after 7 PM Eastern on the Friday before the Virtual Coffee House will receive the Zoom link for the following Saturday.


Please note registration confirmations are no longer emailed. You can find your confirmation and the Zoom link on your member home page under Events (please check “Show this registration in My Events” when you register).

If you do not receive your registration confirmation, please email mddewv@scbwi.org with “(name of event) registration issue” in the subject line. Emails must be sent no later than 24 hours prior to an event to ensure a response.

The virtual coffee house sessions will not be recorded.

How to participate

Authors and illustrators of all experience levels, mediums, and genres are encouraged to join!

  • Click the button at the top of the page to register
  • Sign on to zoom for a few minutes of chit-chat with other creators!
  • After a little socializing, the host will set a timer for a creativity sprint. 
  • Use this time to work on any creative project OR respond to the creativity prompt provided by the host.
  • After the sprint, get a little accountability and cheerleading by reporting how your sprint went.
  • Attend any one or both of the two sessions.
  • Coffee and/or tea is optional!

Sam Cameron (she/her)

is the Critique Group Coordinator for the MD/DE/WV Region of SCBWI. She is also the book coach behind Truant Pen, a YA author, and high school history teacher. Sam believes that all children deserve to see themselves represented in great books. They deserve your story…and you deserve a chance to tell it!
