About Us

We are a three-state region with a diverse membership of published and pre-published kidlit creators. We host in-person and online events throughout the year, including retreats, workshops, member meetups, sketch crawls, field trips, and webinars. Welcome to Critique Partner Speed Dating! Throughout the year, SCBWI MD/DE/WV will host several online “Speed Dating” events to help creators in our region get to know each other, and find the critique partners of their dreams. Our November event is for graphic novel creators (writers AND illustrators)!

Pack a snack or brown bag lunch, art supplies, and a chair or blanket to join other SCBWI illustrators for an afternoon of sketching and socializing. The park grounds feature historic buildings, trails, and plenty of fall color.

What do industry professionals look for when they view illustrators’ portfolios, postcards, websites, and social media posts? Amelia Mack, art director at Union Square & Co, will offer live feedback on anonymous submissions. Whether you choose to submit a file or just watch, you'll gain insights on how to improve your art. Amelia is open to receiving digital/snail mail postcards from attendees after the event.
